Join my Band of Bards – every workshop you attend will give you the chance to contribute some words towards my BBC Radio Devon piece, which will be broadcast on Sarah Gosling’s Arts and Culture show later that week.

Hear my Radio Devon pieces far: Kimwei as Poet In Residence for BBC Radio Devon’s Arts and Culture show.

Workshops are capped at 12 attendees, so email me to book your place on the first workshop now!

Novices and professionals alike are welcome – it’s ok if you’ve never written a word of poetry in your life – your voice counts and your story counts. All you need is a desire to express yourself in a safe and encouraging space with other creative souls. Don’t think you’re a creative soul? Well I’ll let you in on a secret – if you’re wanting to come along and write, then that proves that you ARE a creative and a bard at heart.

Did you know that a bard can be storyteller, a songsmith or a poet, but that really bards used to do all three? Telling stories used to be natural to ordinary people, not just those who were considered “professional”. Everyone used to sit around the fire and sing songs, tell each other stories – that’s how folktales grew. That’s why the Band of Bards creative writing workshops are important to me – together we can rekindle the tradition of creating beautiful poems out of our experience, as a creative and vibrant community. Come and join the Band of Bards!

When?: Starts Tuesday May 25th, 7.30-9pm and carries roughly every four weeks… The first workshop will be co-facilitated by SPECIAL GUEST JACKIE JUNO! The second workshop will be on Tuesday 22nd June, co-facilitated by Taking the Mic’s very own host Tim King, long time Exeter Poetry slam organiser, a fantastic poet and of course Tim is the current Bard of Exeter.
